Handmade
12:39 pm Lance Weisser: I was just thinking about how cool handmade stuff is.
I'm not talking hand assembled from a factory or stuff that's considered hand made because 40 percent of it is actually touched in the manufacturing process, I'm talking about something that is shaped, carved, woven, painted on or rendered from; a lump, block, thread or a canvas.
Not too long ago I learned from a friend about some of the ways furniture is made to look artificially distressed and how to tell when something is truly "Hand Carved". He pointed out little triangular nicks across a foot board and explained how they were made using a chainsaw.
"You'll never find that type of texture in nature" he said. I asked him if the corbels and fluted cornices across the head board were actually hand carved and he quickly pointed out how perfectly they were aligned to the frame. "There is no way these were hand carved" he said,
" They are too perfect ".
This statement really struck a chord with me.
I begin to think about how God creates us. Every one of us has flaws and imperfections.
We are handmade by Him not to be perfect, but to rely on Him and time spent with Him to naturally form us and give us the character and depth that only something that is made of quality material and been touched and used frequently develops.
I encourage you to think about the stuff you are made of and the potential God placed in you.Take time to look for and admire beauty in the imperfection of handmade things, but also make something yourself, create to express, create to just create.
It won't be perfect, it may take longer, but it will have your signature and the signature of your Creator if you do it with passion and integrity.
Sincerely
Lance Weisser
